In December 1958 the Martin Family, Dad, Mom and
three daughters went for a Sunday drive in Oregon to collect Christmas
greens. The family and their 1954 Ford station wagon were
never seen again. On the day they disappeared, tire tracks
were seen in the snow heading toward Cascade Locks and also leading
off a cliff at The Dalles. Five months later, the two youngest
girls bodies were found floating in the Columbia River.
Forty years later, authorities are trying to solve one of Oregons
greatest unsolved mysteries.
Last month, EPC Sales Representative John Tamplin
of Seafloor Systems (Portland, OR) along with Jon Dasler and Harold
Orlinsky of David Evans & Associates, surveyed the bottom of
the Columbia River in search of the 1954 Ford. Equipped with
an EPC GSP-1086, Edgetech Side Scan Sonar, Reson MultiBeam and a
magnetometer, the group found several good targets. Divers
were not able to find anything, but plan to return in August when
the current will be less swift and visibility better. To be
