2. MP-1086 Sea Trials

Sea trials were recently held on Cape Cod for the MP-1086.  John Fish of AUSS (Cataumet, MA) assisted in lending his expertise along with his EG&G 272 tow fish.  Surveys were conducted and data was successfully collected using the MP-1086.  The tow fish was interfaced directly to the MP-1086 and data was printed across the 10" thermal printhead and stored on the 2.2 GB removable drive.

3. 9802 Sales Soar

EPC is pleased to announce an increase in sales of the Model 9802 Thermal Graphic Recorder.  The multi-purpose 20" TGR is capable of printing analog, parallel or serial data.  Recent contracts reflect the recorders' wide appeal.

Pacific Engineering (Russia) has purchased a Model 9802 for use aboard the "Trias" for oil field development work off Sakhalon Island, Russia.  The recorder is to be used together with the GeoAcoustics Geopulse Receiver 5210A, Hydrophone and Swell Filter and the new Applied Acoustics CSP1500T Power Source and CAT200 Catamaran/boomer plate.  The Model 9802 was supplied by sales agent Andy Smith, Saderet

Kongsberg Defence and Aerospace AS (Norway) has secured a Model 9802 for use with its TOPAS System.  The TOPAS is a parametric sub-bottom profiler system design for very high spatial resolution profiling in water depths from five meters to more than 1000 meters.

The Hydrographic Department of the Japan Coast Guard (formally known as the Japan Maritime Safety Agency) has purchased another Model 9802 to be installed on the "Tenyo," a 500-ton-class survey vessel.  This 9802 is being interfaced with a Triton Elics Delph Seismic System to produce printed records of the seismic data by the sparker.  The Hydrographic Department of the JCG is responsible for hydrographic surveys, oceanographic observation and provisions of navigational charts, publications and information that is required to ensure navigational safety.  Finally, Singapore Agent Sea and Land Technologies has purchased a Model 9802 for re-sale to a customer in South East Asia.

6. 12TH Annual Texas-Yankee BBQ

For the 12th year in a row (actual number often disputed), EPC will host the Texas-Yankee BBQ at the Residence Inn Astrodome during the week of the Offshore Technology Conference.  With the acquisition of Datasonics, Benthos Inc. takes over duties as co-host of the event.  The event has grown over the years and, although the players have changed, the menu of beef, sausage, beans, potato salad, margaritas, beer and relaxed fun has remained.  To witness images of the carnage from past years, log onto the EPC web site: http://www.epclabs.com

8. Feedback from OI Review

Most of the feedback from the review of the OI 2000 Conference (VOL. 2 NO. 15) seemed to favor moving the show from Brighton.   Many people seem to think that the show would benefit by moving and that "Brighton has had it's day".  Others sympathized with the perils and pitfalls of the small seaside city with its, "small rooms, low water pressure, short beds and warm drinks minefields."
