"I give the show a big fat ZERO!"

The month of May concluded a busy trade show circuit
for EPC. In mid-May EPC exhibited at the Canadian Hydrographic
Conference (CHC 2000) in Montreal, Canada. The Conference
was held at the magestic Queen Elizabeth Hotel. With an ice breaker
following a day of exhibiting, the showfeatured a grueling 9:00
AM to 9:00 PM day for exhibitors. A $6.00 beer did not keep
many people long at the reception, however. With multiple
entrances and exits to the exhibit floor, flow of foot traffic and
security was a major concern. Nice weather, sea trials, the
beckoning call of shopping and interest in St. Catherine Street,
kept the small attendance even smaller. The show's big dinner
reception did receive rave reviews. Next years "Hydro
Show" is back in the U.S. to be held in Norfolk, VA.
Next years conference may have the dubious distinction of having
even a smaller attendance and less attractions. Out of a possible
10 badges, CHC 2000 receives 4 1/2.
The biennial CADD/GIS or as it is more commonly referred to as the
"Army Corps Show" was held in St. Louis, MO. Without
a Cardinals Game in town the show was hardly worth attending.
Attendance was very low. With its fragmented operations, what
attendees from the USACOE who did walk the floor, many were not
familiar with your application whatsoever. Breaks from the
sessions were only 15 minutes long and the show organizers had the
brilliant idea of having coffee outside the exhibit hall.
Why do the organizers always insists on this? The show was
held at the accommodating Adams Mark Hotel and sea trials were a
convenient walk from the show. When the highlight of
the trip is seeing Mark McGwire hit a home run (it didn't matter
which night you went), one needs to re-asses one's trade show schedule.
Out of a possible 10 badges, CADD/GIS receives: 3
With both shows being biennial it will be interesting
to see how long exhibitor's memories last.
