"It's really mixed from others - most
folks had fun, spent too much time with exhibitors and did not meet
many or in some cases any new prospects. From MOTN's point of view
- having a presence there was effective, our give away worked and
the shared booth idea worked well."
Maggie Merrill
Director, MOTN commenting on the OI Americas Conference in Miami

The first OI Americas Conference recently concluded
in Miami. The general consensus among the first time exhibitors
was the show was marginally successful. Although the attendance
was not as high as hoped (nor was the much touted draw of customers
from South America), some companies felt the show was quite good.
Many of the Europeans wondered, why Miami? Many felt the show may
have fared, or will fare better, at a different venue like Houston
or New Orleans.
The show did have a wide open floor plan allowing
attendees to easily traverse the conference in a day, many people
changed flights to leave early. Every night featured several well
attended, worthwhile events. PGI Spearhead rented an entire nightclub,
(how much did that cost $!?), Thales' (formerly Racal) event was
held at the posh Lowes Hotel - fireworks included, and Ashtead Technology's
offering included a casual setting pool side at the Miami Beach
Ocean Side Resort complete with T-shirts and Frisbees.
The biggest obstacle most people encountered may
have been the local Labor Union. Never had the industry had to deal
with the frustration and expense of a Labor Union during set-up.
With no single Conference Hotel, attendees scrambled to find their
own accommodations, many at substandard quality. The Miami South
Beach venue of fantastic weather, wild night life, and flamboyant
lifestyles, allowed for great people watching, one of the few places
where a married businessman with no roller blading skills is in
the minority. Out of a possible 10 badges: OI Americas receives
# # # # # # six badges.
