"Eric has high praise for EPC and said
he loves your manual for the recorders he presently owns.
He states they are written well, easy to use, very helpful and that
the manual has saved him many times."

EPC is pleased to announce the sale of two GSP-1086-2
500 Series recorders to Northwest Geophysical Services (Redmond,
WA). The recorders are to be used with their GeoAcoustic side-scan
sonar to map eel grass and offshore geology. Northwest Geophysical
also plans to use the 1086s with an AES Geopulse and a Datasonics
(Benthos) Bubble Pulser for offshore reflection surveys. The
two most recent 1086s follow in a long history of recorder sales
to NW Geophysical that includes EPC Models 8700s and Model 9800s.
The sale was secured through Oregon based EPC agent John Tamplin,
Seafloor Systems. http://www.seafloorsystems.com

With Fiscal Year 2001 officially in the books,
EPC can finally proclaim the year a resounding success. A
closer analysis of the sales explain why. In FY '01, EPC had
an overall increase in total sales of 13%. There was a 7.5%
increase in recorder sales from last year (a whopping 18% up from
1999) which can be attributed to the increase in popularity of the
HSP-100. Sales for the new high speed plotter doubled from
the previous year and had no effect on sales of the popular 1086
Series. The GSP-1086 remains the most popular printer in the
industry and the number one printer for EPC. Further boosts
in sales came from the new MP-1086 and the wide-bed thermals to
the military, geophysical and educational marketplaces.
Complimenting the increase in recorder sales was
a substantial increase in paper usage, spares, rentals, and other
services. From Fiscal Year 2000 to 2001 there was a 28% increase
in sales in this area. Overall, EPC is very pleased with gains
in market share of recorders within the survey and military industries.
We owe it all to our customers!

For over twenty-five years, Seabed Technology
has represented EPC in The Netherlands and more recently in Poland.
Many recorders have been integrated to sub-bottom profiling, side-scan
sonar systems, and other seismic, marine, and survey applications.
Seabed is a multi-discipline design and sales
organization for a wide range of Geotechnical, Oceanographic, Environmental
and Hydrographic products offering both stand-alone or integrated
systems. Seabed comprises of Seabed Technology BV and Seabed
Systems BV. Seabed is a Dutch company which provides technical
products and services for the offshore Oil and Gas, Dredging, Environment-technology
industries, as well as Water management related fields of business
worldwide.
Seabed started its activities in 1970 as a manufacturer
of underwater geotechnical equipment. Its activity was soon
extended with sales of oceanographic and hydrographic equipment.
In 1998, further extension of the company was established with the
foundation of a sister company: Seabed Polska z.o.o in Gdansk, Poland.
One of Seabed Technology's main activities is
the integration of the various sensors, systems, and software for
turnkey projects. Seabed also supplies the products as stand-alone
items. Seabed Technology is also the Dutch agent for underwater
connector manufacturers, including; Subconn, Gisma, and Burton.
In-house hot moulding and pressure testing facilities complement
the provision of cable and connector services.
With a limited number of personnel (eight), this
dedicated Seabed crew has proven their professional qualities on
various projects worldwide and has gained considerable experience
in the manufacturing and installation of underwater equipment and
instrumentation.
System integration, own development (software
and hardware) and fast service are keywords to their success.
Clients include all the major Dredging companies, Hydrographic Survey
companies, Port Authorities, local and Government water management
Authorities and Research Institutes. Seabed Technology achieved
ISO 9001 accreditation in April 1998. Quality Control is handled
through the ISO Procedure Manuals.

EPC is pleased to announce its latest development
in thermal printer technology, a high -speed network interface.
Implemented in the latest series of 1086 recorders
(the Model 1086NT), the interface provides a simple LAN based RJ45
connection between a host NT Workstation and one or more recorders.
In order to greatly reduce the development cycle, EPC offers a high-level
API which can be linked to user-level code. The tiny library
provides an extremely intuitive, self-documented, interface to the
recorder. Advanced spooling algorithms, multi-threaded operations,
and inter-process communication techniques are all employed with
the DLL so that the host developer is relieved of such time-consuming
coding. The end result is a rich, high-level function set
that allows integration of solid driver code in a matter of days
instead of weeks.
Topside manufacturers will find the simplicity
of the physical connection very attractive. Operator's can
use a normal LAN connection to a 100-speed hub or opt for a simple
crossover cable connection between a portable and a recorder.
Either way, the API provides a simple function for querying the
network and returning a list of available recorders. Furthermore,
the transmission characteristics and raw speed of the Ethernet interface
far surpass standard parallel methods commonly used today.
The new software also addresses the age-old problem
of pacing a continuous printer during real-time data acquisition.
The host software can register a user-defined callback with the
library to notify it when particular events have occurred.
Using this advanced method, the developer can write highly efficient
data transmission routines that circumvent the not-so-real-time
tendencies of the NT operating systems. EPC is planning on
implementing the same high-level interface for its high-speed wide-bed
printer, the Model 9206. Questions can be directed to tech-support@epclabs.com

EPC will be closed Monday, September 3, 2001 in
observance of Labor Day. Labor Day is a legal holiday celebrated
on the first Monday in September in the United States, Puerto Rico,
the Canal Zone, and the Virgin Islands. The celebration of
Labor Day, in honor of our working class, was first suggested by
Peter J. McGuire, the founder of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters.
It was initiated in the U.S. in 1892 by the Knights
of Labor, who held a large parade in New York City. In 1884
the group held a parade on the first Monday of September and passed
a resolution to hold all future parades on that day and to designate
the day as Labor Day. In March 1887, the first state to declare
a legal holiday was passed in Colorado, followed by New York, Massachusetts
and New Jersey. In 1894 the U.S Congress made the day a legal
holiday. Parades, and speeches by labor leaders and political
figures, mark Labor Day celebrations - along with the end
of Summer.
