2. Around the World In 90 Minutes

One of the most unique aspects of selling products into the oceanographic and military marketplaces is dealing on the global stage.  One morning in October was no exception.  EPC worked on a Letter of Credit for a recorder sale in Korea, revised an order for thermal paper in Scotland, prepared shipping labels for a paper order in the US, worked on a technical problem for a customer in Brazil, devised modifications to recorders in France, forwarded software protocol on a recorder to Germany, quoted parts to the Government of Israel and Canada, inquired on a tender in India, and Invoiced customers in Croatia and Italy.  All this by 9:00 AM!

3. R/V Palmer: Ice, Ice Baby

EPC training on the 1086NT has been put on ice, literally.  Raytheon Polar Services (formerly Antarctic Support Associates) was due to receive technical site training this month on all aspects of operation and maintenance of EPC recorders, including the new 1086NT.  Training has been indefinitely suspended because the RVIB Nathaniel B. Palmer is stuck in ice somewhere in the Antarctic Ocean.  Pictures of the stunning predicament are available on the EPC Web Site.

Raytheon Polar Services Company (Englewood, CO) own and operate three Model 9802 TGRs in seismic and multibeam operations and two GSP-1086s with side-scan sonar systems. http://www.polar.org

4. Web News: Interactive Guide

Now available on the EPC Web Site is the most comprehensive user's guide for any product in the industry.  EPC felt that the most widely used printer in the industry, the Model 1086 Series, should have an on-line guide to match.  A unique feature under the Operation link is the "Interface Panel Controls" which allows web users to scroll over an image of the 1086's Connector Panel to view information about each setting and connector.  Included on the Interactive Guide is information on:

  • Operation
  • Maintenance
  • Troubleshooting
  • Specifications
  • Systems Overview
  • Drawings

If there is something we left off, we'd like to know.  Contact us with feedback at: tech-support@epclabs.com  Also updated was the EPC FTP Site.

5. Wanted: Critics At Large

Since the inception of the EPC Monthly Newsletter in January, 1999, EPC has periodically reviewed trade shows around the industry.  Reviews rate the show in badges with the highest grade being 10 badges ##########.  Among the aspects typically critiqued are the venue; conference hall and host city, attendance, hospitality suites, organizers, etc.  The segment has always been a favorite among Monthly readers.

EPC will not be attending the upcoming MTS/IEEE Oceans 2001 Conference and Exhibition November 5-8, 2001 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Honolulu, HI.  We would, however, like to offer our readers with an unfiltered, unbiased, honest assessment of this conference.  If you'd like to throw your two cents in - we will keep the reviews anonymous if desired.  Please send show reviews on Oceans 2001 to sales@epclabs.com we will publish feedback in next month's issue.

6.  Gobble! Gobble!

EPC Labs, Inc. will be closed November 22nd and 23rd in observation of Thanksgiving Day.  It is traditional for families to give thanks, enjoy turkey dinner, and watch football (and usually in that order).  It also signifies the beginning of the "Holiday Season", Thanksgiving Christmas New Years.

The EPC Monthly is a FREE Newsletter provided to EPC customers and industry personnel. If you have received this e-mail in error or would like to discontinue receiving it, please reply and type "UN SUBSCRIBE" in the subject line.
