2. Sales: 1086NT Expectancy Exceeded

Despite little advertising, word of mouth on the 1086NT has helped the product exceed expectations. With the first production run already sold out, the 1086NT is beginning to replace the popular, and still offered, GSP-1086-2 500 Series. Among the early customers: Thales Geosolutions - Aberdeen (3 units), Oceans Surveys Inc.- Old Saybrook, CT (2 units), Marine Geosulutions - So. Africa, Fugro Jacques - New Foundland, and Survey Equipment Services - Houston, TX.

The 1086NT incorporates a Network Interface that allows operators to export data onto a network in XTF Format. Users can also input data over the ethernet connection, currently with Klein multibeam data to allow real time printing. Other improvements include a new 32 bit architecture, VGA connection to allow viewing of the 1086NT Operating Systems, Control Panel enhancements, and speed correction.

3. FAQ: Keyboard Commands

One of the more frequently asked questions is "Why would someone use a keyboard with the Model 1086?" The keyboard interface allows operators and easy way, not only to annotate on the record, but also to update the control settings. By typing a simple three letter header and argument like "CON 20" the 1086's Contrast Value is updated to 20 without having to manually scroll the value from the Control Panel. A cursory review of the keyboard command protocol:

FUNCTION HEADER ARGUMENTS
KEY RATE KEY 0.011 TO 10.000
SCAN RATE SCN 0.006 TO 10.000
TRIGGER SELECT TRI INT, EXT
TIME VARIED GAIN TVG OFF, 1 > 255
PRINT MESSAGE MES 1,2,3,4,5,6,7, TEXT STRING
FIX # FIX 0 > 32766
LINES PER INCH LPI 75, 80, 100, 120, 150, 200, 240, 300
CONTRAST CON -30 TO 40
SCALE LINES SCA 5, 10, 20, OFF

This is just a sample, but you get the idea.

6.  EPC Monthly, Three Years and Counting

The EPC Monthly has now completed its third full year. Hard to imagine we have not missed a month since the first issue in January, 1999. The most often question is "How do you find things to write about"? It ain't easy making a newsletter about graphic recorders interesting, but we do have a passion for our products and a love of the industry. We appreciate all the interest and support.
