In 1974, the Bundesamt für Seeschffahrt und
Hydrographie or BSH
(Hamburg, Germany) purchased their first EPC, the Model 4100. Twenty-eight
years later, BSH is still a loyal customer. An overview of their
recorders catalog the progression of EPC's printer line:
4100 S/N 194 (1974)
4800 S/N 167 (1987)
9800 S/N 141 (1992)
8300 S/N 129 (1994)
1086 S/N 592 (2000)
What do all the recorders have in common? Amazing
to some, but not to EPC or
BSH, they all
still operate! The recorders are used for side-scan sonar, seismic
exploration and sub-bottom profiling.
The 'Bundesamt für Seeschiffahrt und Hydrographie'
is a higher Federal authority in Germany with responsibility for
maritime matters. The scope of the BSH's
activities is wide, ranging from questions of economy in shipping
to the safety of ship's technology and marine research. They operate
several Research, survey, and wreck search vessels.

With over thirty years of Product Announcements
coinciding at Oceanology International, OI2002 will be no exception
for EPC. The Model 1280 promises to revolutionize the way
side-scan sonar, seismic and sub-bottom data is acquired and displayed.
The acquisition, display and recording system boasts the largest
display of any portable system on the market. Its solid state electronics
ensure user's the most rugged architecture available. EPC pioneered
the way with Network Interfaces for its printer line (1086NT, 9206,
MP-1086) and the Model 1280 follows suit. EPC's experience with
hard copy means seamless printer integration is a given. Add rich
annotation features, Navigation inputs, slant range correction,
and this paperless recorder offers user's a robust, portable and
very flexible survey tool.

Overshadowed by the upcoming OI Event in London,
is the rest of the Trade Show Calender in 2002 for EPC. Unfortunately,
EPC will bypass the UNDERWATER Conference in New Orleans,
February 27-March 2nd. Too close to OI to successfully - although
we do like shows in the Big Easy. Why two major Conferences can't
coordinate dates befuddles most exhibitors.
Next up after OI, will be our annual Offshore
Technology Conference (OTC)
Yankee BBQ. EPC has hosted all Gulf Coast customers to a traditional
Texas style Bar-B-Que during the first week in May in Houston, TX.
The event has been co-hosted with Benthos /Datasonics for close
to a dozen years.
Also scheduled, or should we say, re-scheduled,
is the Ocean Technology Workshop (OTW). The MOTN
sponsored event will be held in Plymouth, MA in September. The event
differs from traditional trade shows and features sea trials and
class room sessions detailing product operation. EPC has opted in,
last year we opted out, of the Oceans 2002 Conference in Biloxi,
MS October 29-31, 2002.
