Although it is a few months away, with people

10. That yummy exhibit food.
9. Convenient 25 minute commute on the DLR.
8. Those spacious European hotel rooms designed for children and
midgets.

4. "Those students ask the most interesting questions, don't
they?".
3. Great opportunity to collect all those detailed sales forecasts.

It's not often that sales on consumables, spares
or parts get a wide press release. In the last 1-2 months EPC has
had an extraordinary run for booking rolls of EPC Thermal Paper
and Thermal Film. The two mediums are used in the company's line
of Thermal Graphic Recorders. The end users reflect the diversity
of the EPC customer base. The customers included international (India),
domestic (U.S. Gulf of Mexico), commercial (survey companies) military
(U.S. Government) and educational. EPC prides itself on maintaining
the highest quality control on its thermal paper and thermal film
than any other thermal printer manufacturer.

It seems like the Oceans 2003 Conference Show
was soooo long ago, not just 6 weeks. After suffering through one
of the worst conferences in June (see EPC Monthly VOL. 5 NO. 49),
the industry seemed buoyed by the turn out in San Diego, CA. Held
again at the Town & Country Hotel, the venue offered exhibitors
and attendees easy access (and beautiful weather) across the sprawling
campus. The event was held there previously in 1995 and many repeat
attendees experienced deja vu. The Town & Country Hotel is not
the perfect Conference Hall, or the perfect hotel - but it does
offer a large exhibit hall, several on-site restaurants, outdoor
pools, and a 27 hole golf course across the street. Some exhibitors
complained of the upstairs/downstairs split, with the lower floor
having a certain dungeon effect.
The event started on Sunday with a golf scramble
at the world renown Torrey Pines (host of the PGA Buick Open &
2008 U.S. Open). For many, it was an opportunity to play at a world
class venue. It was surprising that the course was somewhat burned
out (before the wild fires), but this was overcome by the incredible
views and spectacular vistas. Several hospitality events (RDI and
Dynacon) that attendees and fellow exhibitors have counted on crashing
every year, did not disappoint.
San Diego makes for an attractive venue. Besides
the weather and golf, it's proximity is conducive to attracting
customers;commercial (Thales), Government (U.S. Navy) and educational
(Scripps). Logistically, it helps a concentration of local manufacturers
(InterOcean, RDI, Impulse). The show was well attended and a nice
surprise for all who participated. There is a move afoot to start
making San Diego, CA an Oceans repeat occurrence. It'd be nice to
start a tradition - its hard to imagine how many exhibitor's, U.S.
customers (and even Asian customers for that matter) are going to
travel to next year's venue in Kobe, Japan. Out of a possible 10
badges, the Oceans 2003 receives 7 badges #######.

It's been quite a while (think 1995 introduction
of the 1086 Series), since a new product has received such heightened
interest prior to it's official launch. The 1280 Sonar Acquisition
and Processing System promises to revolutionize the way data is
collected, displayed and processed. Easy to use, impressive to look
at. Start believing the hype. Details to follow.... (for a sneak
peak, check out a screen capture on the EPC web site).

After much criticism (yes, we do receive some),
EPC has finally posted all of our past EPC Newsletters on the EPC
Web Site (yes, we do listen to the criticism). The web site has
also been updated with new images and scrolling text. Hopefully
this will ebb the tide of negative feedback, for now.
